Food waste is a global problem that affects us all. The Austrian Red Cross is sending out a clear signal against this - with an interactive and playful approach: the fridge game, programmed by us, the digital agency pixelpublic from Baden-Baden.
What's behind the fridge game?
The game focuses on the question: How do I store food properly in the fridge? The aim is to playfully learn how to keep food fresh for longer in order to avoid unnecessary waste. Users are invited to sort virtual food into the right place in the fridge. Those who successfully master this can even take part in a competition and win attractive prizes.
The game is uncomplicated and platform-independent: It runs seamlessly on Android and Apple devices as well as on the desktop.
Our mission: smart technology for meaningful messages
Behind the seemingly simple game mechanics lies sophisticated technology. We programmed the fridge game with JavaScript and placed particular emphasis on flexibility. One highlight: the game operator can customize texts and the final link of the campaign. This means that the game can be used in a variety of ways for future campaigns.
Why a game?
Gamification - the use of playful elements - is an effective way to convey content in an exciting and sustainable way. The Red Cross fridge game is a prime example of how education and entertainment can go hand in hand.
