When you work for a company that has been taken over by Steinway & Sons, you are no longer just talking about a project - you are talking about perfection. As a digital partner of Renner, one of the leading manufacturers of hammerheads for piano action, we had a very special highlight on our agenda in October: the music fair in Shanghai. Of course, Renner didn't just want to be there, they wanted to present their extraordinary hammerheads with style and high-tech - interactively. Exactly our thing.
The challenge? A touchscreen application that not only looks like a work of art, but also shows the inner values of these highly complex products. Because we're not talking about nuts and bolts here - we're talking about the finest craftsmanship. Every hammer head is a small marvel. From top felt to hammer cores, from sound to individualization - the trade fair visitor should be able to discover all of this at the touch of a finger. A real experience that combines technology and music history.
Hammerheads in 3D: beautiful to touch
So we set to work and developed a 3D graphic that shows Renner's hammerheads at their best. But not just as a rigid representation - with us you can take the hammerheads apart. That's right, you read that correctly. The components such as the top felt, bottom felt, hammer core and clamp can be activated on the touchscreen and disassembled into their individual parts. You get exciting information about the production and details about customization - and how these small pieces of felt ultimately influence the sound of a piano.
The whole thing should not only be informative, but also a real eye-catcher. After all, the trade fair stand is the first stage on which Renner is appearing in Shanghai. And, we did it: visitors to the trade fair were able to immerse themselves in the world of hammer heads at the touch of a finger, see, hear and understand why these small parts form the soul of a Steinway grand piano.
Languages? No problem!
Shanghai is international - so the application had to be available in English and Mandarin. Not an easy task, but hey - we at pixelpublic love a challenge. What came out of it? An application that switches effortlessly between languages and looks elegant on any touchscreen. And best of all: the app also did its job in terms of customer acquisition, as it impressively demonstrates how much know-how and precision each hammerhead possesses.
A project that is fun
For us, the project was not only an exciting technical task, but also an encounter with really cool contacts. The Renner team knew what they wanted: quality, precision and a pinch of wow effect - exactly what we wanted to deliver. The result? An interactive trade fair application that perfectly showcased Renner in Shanghai.
Thank you, Renner, for allowing us to go down this creative path together. And who knows - maybe the next project will be an octave higher. Until then, let the notes resound!

The application generated a lot of interest among the trade fair visitors, which made us very happy. Many thanks for the great support in the project, despite the tight project schedule.
